The principal merit of the entire Scuola Grande is the wonderful cycle of canvases which Jacopo Robusti, better known as Tintoretto, conceived and r completed in the three Sale between 1564 and 1588. According to some critics, these paintings, because of the unity of theme and their location, is for Venice what the Sistine Chapel is for Rome. The artist wanted to use light as the main element of his work, dominating the form and the colour and giving the several representations unity of action and a great expressive power.
The paintings were the catechesis of the Confratelli.
